Councils to clear the way for listed building energy upgrades

Exciting news for owners of listed buildings in Suffolk and the environment. Babergh and Mid Suffolk councils are collaborating closely with Historic England to become the first councils in the country to implement measures that will streamline and expedite improvements to listed buildings.

The two councils recognise that thousands of listed properties have poorly fitting windows and single glazing, which results in heightened energy consumption and carbon emissions. Consequently, Historic England has emphasised that retrofitting historic buildings is crucial for achieving net-zero targets.

Cabinet member for Mid Suffolk heritage, planning and infrastructure Cllr Andrew Stringer said:
“For owners, our message is clear – we are clearing the way so they can make sensitive improvements to their buildings.”

“This is an extremely ambitious piece of work and we strongly believe this could be of national significance – a template for others to follow."

Here is an example of a recently fitted Slim Double Glazing Sash Window. These are very well suited for replacing the original Sash Windows in Listed properties while still retaining the original aesthetic of the property.
